Entertaining in an apartment often takes a little extra effort because of space issues, parking problems, and kitchen accommodations, but it’s not impossible to throw a great party, gathering, or get-together in an apartment – even if your Albuquerque apartment is fairly small.
You already know the benefits and conveniences of living in an apartment, and the temporary modifications you may need to make to your lifestyle to entertain well aren’t too difficult or time-consuming.
Consider the following when you have a party planned and expect several additional people in your Albuquerque apartment.
Don’t Be Afraid to Rearrange Everything
When you move into your new apartment, you might move in with such urgency that you don’t really find the best spots for each of your pieces of furniture. You might not even realize that the couch you toted from your old apartment to your new apartment wasn’t really the right size for your new place.
Once we move into our new apartments – or even our single-family homes, condos, and townhouses – it’s tough to change course with a complete rearranging of all our furniture. However, when you’re slated to entertain some friends, one of the first things you should consider is moving all your furniture around to accommodate the extra bodies.
Apartment Therapy explains:
“You have total license to re-arrange your furniture for one night to suit the party. Move furniture against the walls, get the breakfast bar stools out of the place for the evening. Stash extra pieces in a bedroom or closet, or see if a neighbor will let you bring them over for the night of the party (just as long as they’re invited).”
If you’re particularly short on seating, you can even advertise your gathering as “BYOC” for a “bring your own chair” party. At the very least, a huge pile of pillows on the floor will do the trick.
Create a Bunch of Appetizers and Just Leave Them Out
Sometimes it’s best to think like a college student or someone hosting a Superbowl party. You don’t have to create a beautiful four-course meal with all the fancy dinnerware and every utensil in the right spot (unless you’re hosting that sort of party, of course).
Usually, it’s best that you don’t get too stressed out about the food and that you avoid trying to create anything particularly complex if you have a modest kitchen. These days, it’s pretty easy to order appetizers from something like “Uber Eats,” which can deliver a bunch of restaurant-fare from a local bistro or cafe just in time for your guests.
College Campus Life News suggests:
“The easiest way is to potentially order in or to make small appetizers that you can leave out for the entirety of the event. Either way, you’ll need serving trays and plasticware for everyone to use and so that you can leave the food out on the counter without having to pack everything up while your guests are still there.
It’s best to do this buffet style so that people can get up and grab what they want when they need it, including water and any other drinks they may want. This way, you aren’t hassled every time someone needs something, as it’s all laid out right there.”
You can even ask guests to bring a favorite dish, so everyone has something they want to eat, and you don’t have to provide absolutely all the food.
